To those above wondering why Blizzard would put something crafted like all of these thorium brotherhood weapons and armor in the game requiring loads of core and other expensive materials… its because when you start hitting MC with a selective group of people over and over, the guild as a whole starts building up stockpiles of core (20+ sometimes) and then the guild can start generating these items for the main MC members like clockwork.

So don’t worry about the «individual» person’s cost to build an item like these from Thorium brotherhood.  Its meant as a guild created item.

Yeah, it’s not a bad weapon — I’d like it for MC when I tank (60 warrior), but for the absolutely insane amount this thing costs to make, it’s a joke.  The amount of time you’d put into MC to acquire 12 Fiery Cores alone, your MT is likely to have a superior weapon to this already.  So then it’s for the OT maybe?  Oh wait, the OT really isn’t required to have high FR until the later bosses (assuming your MT doesn’t die in the fight and somehow isn’t SS’d or battle-rezable).

This weapon is just a stab in the back to swordsmiths in my opinion — blizz has got to know it’s ridiculous.

The materials for this are completely bizarre to me.  If one is capable of getting that many cores for a weapon, then one is with a raid that is probably capable of downing the MC bosses that drop far superior weapons (Brutality Blade comes to mind).  A MC/BWL raid is not going to be spending its cores on weapons, it’s going to be spending them on making FR armor for its members.  By the time that enough mats have dropped to outfit the raid members in armor, all melee is likely to have better weapons than this.

The only other way to end up with that many cores is to buy them off the AH from raids who random out core materials.  Given that core materials go for huge sums of cash on most servers, this means either grinding absurd amounts of gold or eBaying.  At that point it begs the question of why you aren’t just going all out and getting someone to craft you a Blackguard, which is 10 DPS higher.

Dark Iron Gear, weapons and Armor is basically designed for maintanks for MC starting guilds, if ur guilds plannin on it, then u can get alot of ur tanking FR gear from the dark iron guyz in BRD, the epic plate set has insane FR statz and this sword is good for tankin as well.. add draconian deflector to the mix and ull be oen sick MC tank……….prepare for alot , and alot of work on getting rep up + fiery cores.

Eff you blizz, thx for the shaft again. Weaponsmith have this as honored, and with crazy uber stats like +6 fr…WOW thx again for letting us craft such an uber sword for 2 blood of the mountain, 128 dark iron ore, and 12 damn fiery cores.

By comparison, this is not even a very good sword next to dal’rend or even the pvp blue sword reward. Again, next to the molten helm which is learned at friendly!, and less so since it is learned at honored but the point is still obvious..the black dragonscale boots both of which are AMAZING for the designed class. Just a final note, both of these are farrrrrr easier to make than one reaver. GG BLIZZ

Yes the recipes are all BOP and bought through the BRD vendor in the Bar. I have honored with Thorium brotherhood myself (swordsmith, so this is the only recipe I can use). Takes 300 Dark Iron ore to get friendly, and 600 more to get honored. Revered takes 1200 more ore.. I’m working on it. Anyone know if there is currently any reward for revered with them? I figure I might as well get it up before the patch makes them worth 50 faction per 10 ore instead of 100.

Trying to convince my guild to farm to get their faction up so we can get the other fire resist tradeskill gears from him made.

With recent patch there is a faster way to gain faction. At Thorium Point, Searing Gorge you can hand in Kingsblood, Incedosaur Scales, and Coal to build your faction, then Dark Iron Residue to build it more.

Thorium Brotherhood has nothing to do with the Hydraxian Waterlords. The Hydraxian Waterlords are found in Azshara, and you build faction with them by killing bosses in Molten Core.

I’ve heard rumours that the FR will be removed of this in 1.11, can anyone confirm?

This is the only non-world drop and decent FR weapon I would use as a mage. I wouldn’t like it’s use to be nullified….

Called Gaining Exeptance it is repeatable till u reach honored now i have forgoten how many times u need to complete quest but it is a VERY easy quest 1 requires 4 dark iron residue (common drop in BRD) u will need 1k+ residue to get to honored real easy only ahrd part is the clicking to return quest as i am lazy 😀 upon finishing this quest u will ahve to go to tanaris and do the imperial plate quest (bad luck if u have already done it ill explain what u ahve to do if u ahve done it after ive explained imp plate quest) requires 190 thorium and will be part way (not very far into revered) the rest of the way (to revered-exalted this is for u guys who have already done imp plate quests and the ones who have just read about it)u will ahve to go now to Lokhotos Darkbargainer (vendor in BRD where at certain rank will be able to buy tghe dark iron plans located in bar in BRD) he will giv u repeatable hand in quests:

10 dark iron ore- 50 rep
1 core leatehr 150 rep
1 fiery core 200 rep
1 lava core 200 rep
1 blood of mountain 200 rep
do these until exalted but no need just get to revered with some of these cause the last of the plans for dark iron stop there!

Friendly- 3,000 rep
honored another 6,000 rep
revered another 12,000 rep
exalted another 21,000 rep

As a warrior, the big problem after hitting lvl 60 is get the f res gear, and one way to solve the problem is of course DI gear, but its expensive, and the amount of getting all full gear with dark iron bars, is not that bad, 72x but u need 8x ores to make a bar and 72 bars times 8 ores is !@#$loads of ores, u can farm them in searing george, burning stepps, blackrock depts, or Molten Core of course, its still hard getting over 500 ores, and even harder getting all fiery cores and lava cores, reasons why is, guild that have alot of them more or less never sell them, and if u get them, u will prob pay 100 gold each core, and U DONT NEED MORE FIRE RESISTANCE THEN 315, after u hit 315 it wont have any more effect if u get more f res, remember that on baron gheddon and ragnaross, they give full elemental attack, that means armor has nothing to say on hits, that means, u can wear mail items, that give alot more f res, that means u can get plate items wiht more stam and str, remember kids, stt is good way to get AP, and str is WERY important for your blocking, my advice is, get all necklace, trinket, and rings with f res, and try find gear thats not Dark iron, as long as u get 315 f res, ur good 😛 aye and dont forget the draconian deflector, uber good shield

Only armorsmithed and it takes forever to get the plans. Takes around 100 hours or so to get them solo. With help can be done in less time.

— Not a «real» set — no completion bonuses (2, 3, 5, 7 piece bonuses etc)

— All but the Dark Iron Shoulders require Armorsmith blacksmithing specialization to make.
— All require trips to BRD to make: to smelt the dark iron bars and to create the items on the Black Anvil where Incendious spawns.
— Very high FR rating when all pieces are equipped (compare to epic sets for warriors/paladins — +34 or +40 FR total on those, +168 on this one)
— Slightly higher armor rating than Lawbringer or Might gear (4306), significantly less than Judgement or Wrath (4925)

In my opinion, with a little tweaking, Blizzard could have made this a very nice mid-range set, or for the crowd who could never hope to finish out an epic set for their plate class. Just needs set tier bonuses, change the chest to BoE, and add some slight other stat increases (in the same range as the stamina total, to strength for example)

Alot of people have put down this piece…saying it takes too long to get all the mats, armorsmiths only, etc…esp when you get the Ornate Adamantanium Breastplate which is arguably better for doing a relatively easy quest line.

What everyone is missing here is the +19 to fire resist…which is amazing for Onyxia / Molten Core….you cannot do either of those as a tank without heavy duty fire resistance (200+ ideally)…this is more of a piece you would use specifically for those two places…making it a great item.

People are also missing the fact that it has 817 AC. The only other chest pieces with a higher AC are the Wrath and Judgement Set pieces, which no profiles on a non hacked serever have 🙂 And you can wear it at 54! I’m so getting me one till my valor plate drops (647 AC) and still keeping it for MC later! 🙂

First off thank you all for discussing this piece in such detail.  I picked this plan up last night and had wonderful dreams of selling a ton of these at the AH.  Boy was i mistaken.  First off, i thought the ore was a one:one ratio for creating bars……I WAS STOKED!  Went to the AH bought myself 20 DI ore, and got the Heart of Fire (or whatever its called) dirt cheap.  I was certain that my financial woes were going to be a distant memory.  Now after reading the above messages i find myself regreting the day i decided to become an armorsmith.  Please tell me that there is a silver lining to the armorsmith’s dark cloud.  I know of the Lionheart Helm……only takes about 400-500g to make (lol), and i have a few other DI pieces, but where and when do the pieces come that we can actually start making some money on?

I thought it was interesting to read about the fire resistance and how it relates to the MC and other fire related instances……I now know what i should be striving for, well at least a short term goal. 

If people are so worried about the lack of stats, why not enchant it?  Is there a enchantment that could give this piece the stats that people are looking for?

So from what I see this is the ONLY piece that is BoP. Is that correct? Couse if it is I will seriusly think twice about going armorsmith becouse of all the DIO you have to give away just to get the plans. Can anyone give me some insight on what armors are BOP and which are BOE, and do waeponsmit have anything similar?

For armor that is so hard to make in terms of gathering materials for, blizzard should add set bounus for dark iron plate, like what you would see in the Imperial Plate armor and Darksoul.  Maybe something like +20 defense or + 40 attack power.

I also think blizzard add set bounus for all craftable end game armor, that way people will make it and use it for more than just that one or two places.

Can I just say that this helm is totally UGO? I mean, it doesn’t even match. The black is like a grayish-green and the red is to orange. The rest of the set looks hot tho. (if u get the set definately hit «do not show helm»)

Okay right, there’s much better gear out there.. who cares if you have might or wrath or whatever.. show off in /1 but don’t diss «lower» gear here…

Dark Iron, the entire set (some pieces aren’t really worth the mats but..) is VERY nice for a new MC guild where the MT doesn’t have that high FR yet.. We starting MC this friday and I’m getting this BP/Shoulders, after a run or two farming I plan on getting the helm and bracers, definatly worth it until I get epics from MC drops.

Tell me if that works…Unlearning weapon and retaking Armour. Because I though it was not possible. I know they changed it for Engineers to go from Goblin to Gnomish and vica versa, but for Blacksmiths ?

I saved for weeks to craft this item. The 20 bars and the hearts.

Never thought to look in the Blacksmith tool for the words «Binds when picked up.» Built it for my friend went to trade it to him and it was soul bound. I’ve never crated something that only binded to me.

Well there are a few BoE Dark Iron Items, too. For example the Dark Iron Shoulders (510 AC 10 Stam 10 Fireres) I just made my Dark Iron Plate today, was fun getting 160 Dark Iron ores… There are Epic Dark Iron pieces too, like the Dark Iron bracers which can only be acquired by getting reputation with the Thorium Brotherhood. I think it’s gonna be a lot of work to actually get one of these recipes because you can only increase your reputation by delivering Dark Iron or the rare Stuff like Fiery Core which only drops at Molten Core. — Not a «real» set — no completion bonuses (2, 3, 5, 7 piece bonuses etc)
— Dark Iron Plate is Bind on Pickup
— All but the Dark Iron Shoulders require Armorsmith blacksmithing specialization to make.
— All require trips to BRD to make: to smelt the dark iron bars and to create the items on the Black Anvil where Incendious spawns.
— Very high FR rating when all pieces are equipped (compare to epic sets for warriors/paladins — +34 or +40 FR total on those, +168 on this one)
— Slightly higher armor rating than Lawbringer or Might gear (4306), significantly less than Judgement or Wrath (4925)

In my opinion, with a little tweaking, Blizzard could have made this a very nice mid-range set, or for the crowd who could never hope to finish out an epic set for their plate class. Just needs set tier bonuses, change the chest to BoE, and add some slight other stat increases (in the same range as the stamina total, to strength for example)

Many armorsmiths are only amorsmiths because of the dark iron items. These armor pieces are extremely usefull against major raid bosses who have fire atacks. Most armorsmiths with dark iron get into raid grps easily because of the large amount of resist they have to fire. So they might be BoP but all the dark iron items are more essential than any weapon a weaponsmith can make. Plus this is the highest AC of any rare plate available, and the other 2 dark iron are the highest AC of any item of their kind.

This is still an interesting item after the expansion, maybe even more so now. Dark Iron Ore is quite cheap to have now, as people rather make gear from Fel Iron.

If you are ready to get the smelting skill for Dark Iron (in Blackrock Depths), you can bring along plenty of Dark Iron Ore and the rest of the parts needed to make this rifle during a BRD run.

I have found that I can sell them for a nice profit. If you get them at level 50 it’s a very good weapon — that explains why people are ready to pay quite a high price for it.

Being a gnome engineer i do it for the love of crafting, plain and simple. I dony care how much it costs to make the item or the rarity of the mats.

Crafting adds spice,i craft for free if i have the recipe and you have the mats.
Live the Adventure of the game
Dont degrade it into a Farming excercise 🙁

I bought all the mats. I was happy when i finally could craft it. I went to IF and clicked create. Suddenly «requires black anvil» appears on my screen. :/

This is a nice gun but entails great expense and a lot of trouble to make.  Usually my engineer toon can head to any nearby anvil & forge and make whatever.  But not dark iron stuff.  Oh no.

Assume for the moment that you collect the tough mats (48 dark iron ore if the engineer can smelt it or the bars themselves if he can�t.  Oh, and the gems).  A patient and dedicated miner can get these mats but everyone else is off to the AH where the stuff MIGHT be available if your lucky.  Well heeled toons only, please. 

  Now you need to find an engineer willing to do the work.  He must battle into BRD to reach the forge.  For this he needs a group if he isn�t a stealthy type.  Forming the group and running the instance is very time consuming since at least half of BRD must be cleared. If smelting must occur, most of the instance must be run.  The last time I smelted ore we took over 2 hours to do it.  Anyone in his right mind would want a lot of money for this work. 

As with many crafted objects in WoW, this one should be better than it is in order to command the cash that it is worth regarding mats and time. On the other hand, this may be another one of Blizzards ways to restrict certain gear to endgame raid guilds since usually dark iron is hoarded in guild banks.

It was a pain to make but it does great damage even with stock lvl40 ammo. and procs continuously for me.

Additionally, it can/will proc off your normal and skillshots. And the proc damage can crit as well.

I would like to see the general dps and/or proc damage on it boosted a bit considering how much of a pain it is to craft and the mats involved. But I have had no real complaints the way it currently performs. This gun is wasted on anyone other than a hunter. If you see a war or rogue using this, just plain smack them.

You can sell mats for way more than you can sell the gun for. I have not even sold it yet. I may have to lose money on it. 6 DI bars go for 60g on our server. I would rather sell my bars than make this gun.

You can make great money off these plans, I’ve benefited so much. I find blue sapphires quite often, even off mobs, and large opals cost nothing. 36 dark iron ore is a bit tough but its not that bad if you do brd or mc every now and again. I sell for 50-70 g, big profit Imo.

hehe, the Ore’s isn’t that much of a problem, since I’ve found my way to «farm» then solo, just to bad u can’t reset the Instance that offen, only like 5-6 times per hour or something maybe longer

I’ve only spend like 3g on buying the crappy Leather and Mithril for the Deadly Scope since I was lazy.. so I’ll make some good Profit on it

This is a sad waste of a craft. I’d much rather use my, FREE, keepers aim, same dmg only 1 dps lower.

Why in the world would anyone actualy make this thing? Hunters get free bow just as good, and anyone else would want STATS, meaning lvl40 green with 1agi is better.

I could make it anyway, but with raid zones right around the corner with even more free and better weapons, no thanks.

They need to either buff this thing up and add more dps/dmg/stats, or cut regeant costs in half, because it simply isn’t worth the costs.

В этом зале находится посол Огнехлыст. Это посланник Рагнароса Повелителя Огня в клане Черного Железа. За его покоями расположена Гробница Заклинателей, где обитают духи семи патриархов дворфов из Клана Черного Железа, призвавших Рагнароса в наш мир.

Повелитель Огня сулит смерть всему Азероту, если нам не удастся его остановить; и эти семь душ напрямую связаны с той властью, что Рагнарос имеет над дворфами Черного Железа. Расправься с ними и положи конец нечестивым узам.

Мне не по силам продолжить путь в одиночку, несмотря на весь свой боевой опыт. Лицей оказался для меня непреодолимым препятствием. Твоя помощь может оказаться незаменимой.
